once upon a time there was a little girl who spent her whole life physically or emotionally removing herself from everything and everyone that could make her sad. for a time she was satisfied and she was proud of herself for the unscaleable walls she built around her castle. but she wanted a moat and a dragon to make sure.
one moat, one dragon, and rows of stone walls later, a little girl looked out the one teeny tiny little window she left looking out of her castle, and saw what people lived like on the outside. at first she gloated because she was wise and had spared herself all the pain they would experience. but then she wanted to love people. her family, her friends. maybe a little boy. she thought the little boy would come find her and bring her out.
she watched little boys try. one by one they fell to the dragon, drown in the moat, or turned back at the walls. and the little girl realized she wasn't strong enough herself to undo all the work she had done. she wanted to help them, but she couldn't. and gradually, they started trying farther and farther apart. giving up sooner and sooner. and she missed her family. and missed her friends. and one day they will forget they loved her, and that she loved them.
