my thought
2004-01-20, 1:58 p.m.

you know what i have a distaste for? i was thinking about saying that i hate it, but i don't.... That not being the point, i find it irritating when people argue about things for no reason. for example, i happen to have this notion that although we are not pre-destined or controlled by some mysterious forces, there are some things in life that we were meant to do, or places to go, or people to meet. not that any of these things would be life or death situations, but just generalities. i wouldn't even call it a belief, because it is not strongly entrenched, nor do i truly believe it, i guess. its just something that amuses me to entertain the thought of, and hurts no one. to me, something as harmless as that is not worth an argument. perhaps an open-minded debate or quest for further information or details. but not an argument.

i run into this situation quite frequently. i suppose because no one else, or certainly not the majority of people, share my philosophy. like, for example, if you're telling a story about bob when he went to the bank. the whole point of the story is something that happened to bob at the bank, and it doesn't matter why bob is at the bank, or which bank bob uses, or where the bank was, or why bob didn't go to the bank yesterday instead of today... but an audience member may still feel the need to miss the entire point of the story and focus on details such as these. and argue about them. to me that makes no sense. and i just thought i would say so.

now, just for saying that, surely someone is going to email me and go on a big long rant about why, in some circumstances, it would be justified for a person to argue about nothing and what their possible motives might be. which is exactly the type of circumstance i'm talking about.

on a different note, i have some work to do. ttyl
